A good day turned bad
The day started well,a very cold morning but dry so I wandered over to get some pipe fodder. From then on the day went down hill. I have lost my Dicken's collection of e books,a rogue flash drive ate them. Wanted to replace them I joined Amazon, filling all the details in and ordering the stuff. It was a only then I discovered they don't do Paypal. So that was me out of there I am not giving them my bank details. Over to E Bay and a found a much better set on a CD £2:99 post free. Over 100 books including his full novel output, short stories and stuff written for periodicals. All these can be got separately in Public domain but to have the collection together with no messing is well worth the price.
After that the day started to fall apart.
I decided to wash some clothes so filled the machine,it was late in the day but the weather isn't fit to dry them out of doors anyway. I let that run it's course while I grabbed a brew and a chew. When I returned to the kitchen I noticed a strong smell of overheated electrics, bugger that does set the heart beating faster. Then I noticed the washing machine was sitting silently and gloomily like a stroppy teenager. The smell was coming from under it's bonnet. The machine had given up half way through the rinse cycle so was full of water and clothes. I turned the water to the machine off and with a struggle managed to move it just enough to get to the drainage hose. I removed it from the waste pipe pushed a length of garden hose in it and trailed it outside and down the back steps. This drained the machine but with very wet clothes it was still heavy so I removed them into a basket, pulled the machine out and took the lid off, hoping to find a broken belt or maybe worn brushes. No such luck the wiring loom seems to have burned out in several places. So no repairs here a new machine is needed.
The first job was to wring the clothes out by hand and put them in the dryer,in two batches, small dryer very heavy clothes. Then I checked my bank balance and started the search for a new machine. Back on E Bay I found an ex display model for £170 just the spec I want and free courier delivery if I wasn't in a panic for it. So I ordered that to come later next week. That leaves the mess behind the washer to clear up and the washer to move outside for the scrap man to collect. I Can't move the machine until the clothes are dried and the machine wheeled away and my work bench is moved so I can get a clear path. My old back isn't too clever now so that looks like a job for tomorrow when I shall import an extra pair of hands to help me.
So an eventful day you might say,now I am going to relax and watch some sport, tomorrow as they say is another day. Have fun people

I just went thru something similar.. But mine the agitator went and I managed to get the clothes to spin enough to be reasonable. Then the new washer I bought was broke.. It was an expensive model that was supposed to be very very quiet.. NOT! The thing practically screamed! So I wound up returning that, buying a cheaper model (no change in price to me as the original one was on a very good sale). Which I don't really love but works well enough.. This is the second new washer in 4 years. My other lasted 24 years! So it's true what they say, they sure don't make them like they used to!
