Gouda 2017 – Dirck Crabeth Bridge and Amsterdam Lock

Dirck Crabeth was the (stained-)glass maker who made the windows of the Sint Janskerk (St John’s Church) in Gouda.
The lock was built in 1436 and was paid for by the important cities of that time: Leiden, Amsterdam, Gouda, Alkmaar, Hoorn, Medemblik and Edam.
The Amsterdam Lock worked in tandem with the Donkere Sluis (Dark Lock) and Havensluis (Harbour Lock) to create a very large lock of around 800 metres.
