Underwings of a Mourning Cloak

This butterfly, much prettier when the wings are open, was rather battered and really didn't sem to like my being in its "space" - i.e. the highest bit of garden at the Reader Rock Garden. After several dive bombs close to my head, it landed on the sprinkler system and rested a while : ) Taken on May 16th.
