THERE IS NO MORE SPRING

If weren't the cherries to
remind us that Summer is near
nothing will predict that it arrives

if weren't the dark red
of the ripe fruits hanging
from peduncles in trees
nothing will predict that oxygenated blood
still flows in the bodies'
atherosclerosis under urgency of the late heat.

JÁ NÃO HÁ PRIMAVERA

Se não forem as cerejas a
lembrar-nos que o Verão está perto
nada fará prever que ele chegue

se não for o vermelho escuro
dos frutos maduros dependurados
dos pedúnculos nas árvores
nada fará prever que o sangue oxigenado
corre ainda na arteriosclerose
dos corpos com urgência de calor tardio.
