Derry Cairngorm

Derry Cairngorm
This picture was taken at the very windy summit of Derry Cairngorm in the Cairngorm mountains of Scotland.

My friend and I were on the third day of a wild camping trip. The adventure was meant to last a week, but we gave up after climbing here due to the misery of the Midges, which are small biting insects that attack in their thousands when you're trying to camp.

A wonderful high vista here Chris with this low viewpoint. I can sympathise with your midges problem, nothing worse than being in a cloud of them. Well done.

Cheers and thanks for sharing with our UK Landscape Photography Group , Herb

Paisaje impresionante, tipo lunar.

Thank you for your nice comment Jose. We were camping in the lower down in the glens (valleys) where the midges were voracious. We did consider camping higher up in the windy areas, but the terrain isn't so great for camping. We copped out and went home!

This terrain makes for difficult trekking I think, but the scenery is so grand. Mountain top after mountain top into the distance.

Thank you Christa. It is wild. At the summit it is sub-artic conditions. In the glens below there are ancient pine trees. I love it.

It really looks like ice age glaciers only left something like ... yesterday?

Thanks Leon, yes it does feel like it. The terrain here is classified as sub-artic. Stuff that can grow does it very slowly.
