Das unternehmenseigene BMW Museum in München zeigt in seinem auch heute noch futuristischen Architekturstil technische Entwicklungen von BMW aus der Vergangenheit bis in die Zukunft. Hier ist die Vorderfront des BMW Turbo X1 zu sehen. Dieser Prototyp wurde 1972 erstmals vor dem BMW-Hochhaus der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Viele Ideen davon sind dann in die Serienfertigung des BMW M1 übernommen worden.
