Anchors Aweigh

Anchors Aweigh
Went to the Noosa River to see if there were any birds willing to pose. A few Pelicans, Seagulls, Corellas, Ducks, Pigeons.

First of all took a shot with Auto ISO which came out as ISO 100, and quite dark (see Note on Image above), but OK. So upped it a notch to ISO 200, manually. Had it on high shutter speed (1/640), hoping to catch a bird in flight, but liked one shot in particular with a stationary Pelican, boat and Seagull.
Zero editing.

TSC 8 June Technical - a setting on your camera you have never used or been able to figure out... ISO :-)

Interesting shot =) Because images are two dimensional, the pelican looks like standing right in front of the boat, and is at least 1 meter tall* =D EDIT: *Meant to say even tall as a man aka 2 meters.

P.S: ISO 200 is not high/quick =P For me high/quick ISO is at least ISO 1000 =D
EDIT: Although, in a bright day anything like ISO 1000 is unnecessary because the exposure times are short even with lover ISO values.

Thanks Sami. Take your point re. ISO, although it is interesting that there was quite a difference just between 100 and 200 in the light at that time. I do fiddle with ISO on indoor shots but I guess this has made me think of changing it more often outdoors, rather than trying to fix dark shots in post processing. So, a useful exercise. Most of the time here, we deal with glaring sunlight, not that I'm complaining. By high speed, I meant Shutter Speed which was 1/640 for both shots.

We have had plenty of sunshine also here, and like Wendi, nights are light as well. I have to go inside to test high ISO =D

Very nice Gillian. I look forward to trying the fast shutter speeds too. I like how you got that seagull just taking off.

Very nice one.
Pelicans are fun to look at. I loved how they flied just above surface of the water over the water and suddenly dropped down.
