Grifo

Griffon - Portas do Ródão.
With a wingspan of almost 3 meters, the griffon vulture is one of the largest birds observed in Portugal. This species of vulture not only stands out for its size, but above all for the “sanitary” function it performs in ecosystems as the people who treat our waste are essential in society, the griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) also plays an essential role in ecosystems: as it is a scavenger species – from the Greek nekrofágos, “that feeds on corpses” –, it depends on carcasses of mammals (wild, but sometimes also livestock) to survive.
