The festival was held in the Musée de la Vie wallonne (Museum of Walloon Life) in Liège. The building is an old Franciscan monastery, and the festival was held in and around the inner courtyard.

Annual beer festival at the Musée de la Vie wallonne in Liège. I saw the website and first thought it was "Citadel a Bière". It cost €6 entry and that included a reusable 150cl souvenir glass. Then you buy tokens (€15 for 10) and buy beer at the different stands. The server washes your glass before filling it.

La Corne Du Bois Des Pendus, which sort of means "the (drinking) horn of the hangman in the woods". The bottle carries the slogan "Santé Sans Pitié", or "Health Without Pity". It is usually served in a glass shaped like a horn, and "The name of this beer derives from a legendary Ardennes history dating from 1636."

"Pas de pub" on a house door. I prefer to believe it means "not a pub" (it actually means "no junk mail")

Westmalle Dubbel. I had two of them, after my jarring encounter with the sanwicherie guy. They serve it with a little plate of cheese cubes, with celery salt to sprinkle on them.

There are lots of beautiful old buildings around town, but you don't always notice them from the shopfronts

Tripick is an unfiltered triple beer "Tripick is the combination of the word ‘trio’, referring to the three beer-loving friends, and the French word ‘pic vert, which means woodpecker, a well-known bird in the Ardennes region. This local touch can also be found in the logo of this Belgian brand where the ‘t’ of Tripick has the form of a beak."

Houppe beer from Namur, and Aioli flavoured chips. I like the men on stilts on the bottle, which refer to a local tradition: "Since 1411, two stilt walkers' teams of Namur (Belgium) have confronted one another relentlessly. On the one side, the 'Mélans' from the old city with their yellow and black stilts. On the other, the 'Avresses' coming from beyond the walls on their red and white stilts. Their spectacular fights have pleased Emperors and Kings."

Just as in other countries, Aldi in Belgium sells its own house brands of beer with ambiguous names. Not sure if "Buval belgian beer" is a play on the more famous "Duvel" beer

Gulden Draak, from Brouwerij Van Steenberge, is a 10.5% beer, and was awarded the best-tasting beer in the world in 1998 by the American Tasting Institute. It was indeed very nice
