"I got my stories in a betel bag once, but now I don’t hand them out that way. To hear the real thing, you must come to our village, share a meal with us, spend the night, and listen as we speak in the dark. Little stories, yes, they can see the light of day. We can tell them even on the edge of the veranda, or off in the gardens. But the real thing, the long ones, the ones we hold from our grandmothers and grandfathers, they need a bit more preparation.”
