Do you have a beta plan for the API enhancement? I just finished the folder upload feature for the ipxUploader, will be good to know if I have to provide some changes if albums are in fact folders...

Thank you. The new function works like a charm, thak you for this long awaited feature. Hopefully I do not get now any trouble with the album api calls. I finished the feature for albums in the morning today. Some little angel prevented me in the morning packaging and publishing the very new version :-)

Hoewel ik natuurlijk geen Ipernity-staff ben: Je kunt hiermee - indien gewenst - wat meer orde in jouw foto's brengen en wellicht wat meer toegankelijker maken. Ik merk het dat het wel prettig kan werken als je veel foto's in een bepaald album gaat krijgen.
Bijvoorbeeld: in mijn Nederland album had ik tot nu toe zo'n 50 foto's, allemaal nogal door elkaar. Nu heb ik ze gesplitst in een paar albums met bij elkaar horende foto's en opgehangen onder de (nieuwe) folder 'Nederland'.

Wat Jaap al zei, er is een niveau boven de albums gekomen. Albums kun je nu in verschillende mappen onderbrengen.

Helaas verdwijnen de albums niet uit de albumlijst als je ze aan een map toevoegt.

Wat mij betreft hoeven de albums die in Mappen zijn ondergebracht niet nog eens apart zichtbaar te zijn. de lijst kan dan snel erg lang worden.
Ik zou ook graag nog minimaal één extra laag zien in de Mappen en Albums.

Nu wordt het gelijk duidelijk, ik miste dat een beetje in de aankondiging. Ik ga hier zeker gebruik van maken, dank je Jaap voor je toelichting en tips!

I have sorted many of my albums into folders, I will try to arrange them in Alphabetical order if that is possible

@Erato: if you're like me and have over 300 albums, some private, some public, it helps to divide them into categories by folder. You will find this makes what you're looking for much quicker to find.

On my albums page, within tools, I have clicked on "Create a New Folder". Absolutely nothing then appears to happen. Am I missing something here?

Having spent a mercifully short, early part of my life directing the authorship of detailed operations manuals, how does this sound for what is needed?
I had been clicking away on Create a new folder, with nothing happening, of course.

Click on an album to open it. Then click on the Tools icon. Choose "Create a New Folder". This will bring up a dialogue box which asks you to name a new folder, if none already exist. Once you have created a number of them, the choice will be expanded to adding the album you have just opened, to either an existing folder of those listed in the dialogue box, or creating yet another new one.

Cool! :-) This feature helps a lot.

Nice idea, but when I click on the "create folder" action, i just get an error message on the page, and the whole thing freezes. trying to get out of it, I can reactivate my pages by going back to my top page. Any ideas?

The ability to sort albums is really the most wanted feature for me. Sometimes I did not create an album, because I do not want to move a more important one to the back.

1. My wish for this folder option: Ability to set the layout of the album preview to the one of the start page. Would be so nice to group albums and show them in this tiled fassion.

2. Manually selecting a album for startpage not only the "newest".

Go into "Organize" then choose Albums. You can then juggle them around in any order you want. Whatever you put top left, will be the one which appears to others as the one which comes up to view immediately under your photos, if you have structured your layout in that order...

I have an Folder named (for example) "Pflanzen, Flora, Flore" which includes an Album called "Planten un Blomen" which is a park in Hamburg.
Well, this park is located in, as I said, Hamburg. But - well - I have an folder called "Hamburg", too, to show how beautiful my hometown was.

So it would be nice if I could include the album "Planten un Blomen" in the Folder "Hamburg" as well (and not just in the folder Pflanzen, Flora, Flore). If I take some photos inside the "Englischer Garten", wich was a park in Munich, I will insert this album inside the folder "Pflanzen, Flora, Flore" like I´d done with "Planten un Blomen".

Where should I include an Album containing the zoo of Hamburg? Should I include it in my Folder called "Hamburg" to show how beautiful the zoo of Hamburg was? Or should I insert it inside my Folder called "Tiere, Pets, Fauna" because i contains many pets (well, it´s an zoo located in Hamburg, containing many pets)? I will suggest I will include it in both if it´s possible
But if I shot a few photos at the zoo of Munich I will add them into an Album called "Zoo Munich", which could be part of my Folder "Tiere, Pets, Fauna, Faune, ... ", but I won´t create a Folder called "Munich" because - well, the zoo of Munich will be the only place which I would like to visit in Munich each time I went to Munich.
But in my hometown I will take many photos which could be fit in more than just a single Folder (and if just one- should I include the Album of the zoo of Hamburg inside the folder called "Tiere, Pets" or should it be in "Hamburg"? I really don´t know...

Ahm.
And I shouldn´t think about why it´s possible to translate the group-names and group- descriptions in different languages (localization is everything), but not my own Folders and the names of my Albums and their descriptions. ;-) So - what´s about an option to localize the Folders and Albums like the groups? ;-)

Well done, but I agree with one of the comments: the folder and album pages should be separated. Anyway, thanks. What we have now is better than nothing :)

I have noticed and reported one Glitch and also to the user that it effected asking her how it happened if she knows, I think it could be one of the many Browser problems associated with MSIE
I have also noticed that Camera details are not included when uploading new photos, I use Firefox for all Ipernity work now, however for ages now I have always added details of the Camera make and model including date taken as I thought it best when uploading photos from 1956 that according to you were taken on the day of upload.

UPDATE: only unsorted albums are now displayed underneath the folders.
Previously, all the albums - sortered and not sortered - were displayed.

I have noticed that some albums do get removed but not all of them after sorting.

One problem with the new feature is that users can no longer reply / Comment to an entire album as was possible previously.
Attempts to do so give this result;- the photo is open to everyone.
I have reported it ti Service but Julian says he can't figure it out.

Hadn't noticed this until you mentioned it. It does seem odd as you can still comment on albums that haven't been added to folders. Related to this is that there is no longer a view count for albums added to folders (or a view count for the related folder).
Other than that, I'm very happy with this new feature as I have rather a lot of albums and it's good to be able to sort them out.
Edit: this problem seems to have resolved itself now?

Did you allow everyone to comment on your content? At the right side of each album was shown who can comment on an album - did you set it to all members or just to your contacts?

Most of my content no matter what it is about is only for my Family and Friends but there are many photos open to everybody in the "My Favourites" in order that all can get an idea as to what I use my camera for.
Photos linked to this thread are of course Public also

The album you mention "Yamaguchi Japan" contains photos open for my friends and family

I too can comment to photos in albums whether or not they are in folders. Well lets say could because now Ipernity removes albums from the old main list once they are added to folders.
I cannot comment to Albums as a whole though.

But there are some public photos inside the album so the album itself is visible to a public audience - so the album should be able to comment by everywhere if you have set proper properties at www.ipernity.com/pref/content (and don´t set the comment-options to FF only - if you have set it this way it´s pretty clear why nobody can comment at your albums if they aren´t your FF).

You had comment on www.ipernity.com/doc/kiezkicker/album/51188/comments so it´s up2you which comment-settings you chose for your own albums.

My choice of FF only is because many of my personal real life friends do not wish to be displayed in public, as a true friend I must abide by their wishes.

Yes of course, we all have the right to make a choice.

I still can comment on albums, which have been added to a folder.
And I also have the normal view counter for that kind of albums.

I couldn´t believe that you shouldn´t be able to comment on albums anymore so I would like to test it... and it´s true, I can´t do it anymore if an album was inserted into a folder.

After setting up some folders and realizing I can no longer easily find an album if I do not remember which folder I put it in because the album no longer appears on the album list below the folders, I have to agree with JyJy&Chih-ping. I also so see a need for a way to look at a complete list of albums. Viewers looking for specific subject matter may have difficulty guessing my folder organization scheme. For them having an album list to scan might serve them better. If adding another section for albums separate from folders is not desirable, perhaps a button could be added the folder/album list that would allow the viewer to expand the album list to its full size.

I will remove many albums fron my folders for now cause it doesn´t make any sense - an d just let a few ones in a folder - but reorganize my folder - overview (which include every album in a folder currently).
For me it would be perfect if I can choose by an folder - option if they should disappear or not because I want to disappear all my soccer - albums (which are sorted by seasons), but don´t want to disappear mostly others (like the parks, the pets, the people etc.) which are sorted in folders (of my city) for now...

Till yet it works fine for me (not too many albums); but agree it would be better to get an option if albums should disappear or not.

Yes Jaap, I have hundreds of albums so can tell you it becomes more and more a problem as time passes so on those grounds alone I really do need the albums remaining in the main list, if this can be made an option it would make everyone happy.

Nice addition and works without issues =) Great way to keep the albums page from spanning multiple pages and makes it a lot easier to find albums.

I did notice that folks wanted to keep their albums & folders all visible together in the albums section.... How about just having a layout option that would keep the albums in the middle of the page and have a section to the right of them for folders.

Would also be nice to have access to folders in the organizer so things can all be accessed & edited there...

The option to have the photos running downwards already exists, it is up to the individual how the layout is set. I made my default setup to be in three rows side by side, all viewers have the ability to change it at will for their own pleasure, it has no permanent effect to my page.

The system only helps to find albums for the individual user but with more than 9 thousand photos in hundreds of albums in many folders even the user tends to get lost without some form of catalogue.

I wasn't talking about how the photos are viewed.... I was talking about the albums page ;) I know you can change how photos in individual albums can be viewed =)
