Independence Mine

As I noted with another post, we visited the Independence Mine in Hatcher Pass one of the last days of our Alaska trip. In fact we spent a whole afternoon there. This photo, taken on one of the trails through the area of the mine, shows what's left of the old tracks for the train that carried the ore from the mine to the area where it was processed. The Independence Mine was the second richest lode in Alaska. In its peak year the mine provided work for over 200 men and produced over a million dollars in gold (seventeen million dollars today). The mine closed in 1952 and is now a state historical park. This photo is also noteworthy since it is an example of what my new camera, the Canon 7D Mark ii does with in-camera HDR.

PS: My 70D does in camera HDR as well, however, I never tried it so far. I think I should look at it. Thanks for the hint.
