A light snowfall brought 2.8" (7.1 cm) of snow on the Winter Solstice (Larchmont, New York)--December 21, 2024. Despite that snowfall and another 1.0" (2.5 cm) snowfall on Christmas Eve, New York City is on track to record its lowest two-year snowfall on record. The Temple of Heaven (Beijing, China)—August 4, 2024. The Temple of Heaven was built during the first half of the 15th century. Its layout represents the relationship between Heaven and Earth. The Temple of Heaven is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nineteenth Century American poet Anna Hubbard Mercur wrote of the Cosmos flower, “The world’s fair flower am I, Cosmos by name; From Paradise…I came…” At the beginning of summer, the Cosmos flower is among nature’s gifts that beautify the sun-soaked and sometimes steamy landscape. In the sun’s blazing heat, it is a refreshing gift to the eyes.

Aurora Borealis (Armonk, New York)—May 11, 2024. A powerful coronal mass ejection (CME) produced an intense geomagnetic storm that produced Auroral displays in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The displays reached areas where Auroras are rarely seen. Final data showed that the responsible solar storm was the second strongest since regular record keeping began in 1932 and only slightly weaker than a November 13, 1960 event.
